World Cup of Pool

Rules of Play

All matches will be played to WPA Standardised Rules of 9 Ball.

The format of play is ‘scotch doubles’ with alternate break being in force. This means that there will be teams of two players with each player taking alternate shots.

 Order of Breaking

Two players, one from each team, lag for the break. The team that wins the lag then elects one of its team to break.
From there the sequence of breaking for that team is set: Player A breaks the 1st, 5th, 9th, 13th etc racks and Player B breaks the 3rd, 7th, 11th, 15th racks etc.

the opening rack is complete, the second team elects a player to break the second rack. Once done, their sequence of breaking is then set.

 Order of Play

Players in each team play alternate shots throughout except for the break shot when it reverts to sequence.

Push out – If Player A breaks, Player B then pushes out if the situation requires. If the opponents decline the shot, the Player B will play the next shot.

 Shot Clock

There will be a 45 second shot clock in force throughout the tournament.

will be a 10 second warning issued to the player at the table when 35 seconds have elapsed.

Each team is allowed one 45 second extension per rack. They must signal this to the referee by clearly saying ‘Extension’. The onus is on the player to make himself loud and clear.

The referee will then repeat 'extension' to confirm that they have heard it.  The player may call 'extension' at any time during the 45 seconds - the additional 45 seconds will not start until the initial 45 seconds has elapsed.

Ball cleaning, the use of a rest / mechanical bridge, or any other regular interventions by the referee will be included in the 45 second period.

Dear national association in the APBU,
2006 has been a year full of excitement! We have seen very strong players, such as He-Wen Li of North China, emgering out of the APBU sanctioned ESPN San Miguel 2006 Asian Tour; Vietnam Team, consisting of Luong Chi Dung and Nguyen Thanh Nam, ranked #3 in the WPA sanctioned 1st year World Cup; Lee Ven Corteza of Philippines champed the WPA and APBU sanctioned 39th All Japan Championship; Mohammad Zulfikri of Indonesia in the APBU sanctioned A-Mild Bali Open; and of course the new world champion Ronato Alcano roared up the WPA sanctioned 2006 Philippines World Pool Championship.
The usual year-end routine work is to calculate the annual 2006 Asian ranking. The above mentioned and other tournaments have their places in the Asian ranking and world ranking. Now is the time to include 2006 national ranking in your country to the Asian ranking.
With the introduction WPA sanctioned 8-ball world championship in 2005 in UAE and introduction of Women's division in the 15th Asian Games in Doha, Qatar, this is with great pleasure to announce from 15th Asian Games, the 8-ball ranking will be established and up for running to include:

15th Asian Games 8-ball,
WPA World 8-ball Championship,
and, if your country has, the national 8-ball ranking.
Please "Reply to All" to this email to include your country's:
Annual 2006 national ranking based on the tournaments and point system in your country:
Top 16 men: 9-ball
Top 16 women: 9-ball
Top 16 men: 8-ball
Top 16 women: 8-ball
Deadline: December 31, 2006
Thank you and look forward to receiving your annual 2006 national ranking soon.
